Spilt Milk is a mobile café recently launched by Tim & Alice trading in and around the Manchester area.
”We have recently just returned home after a couple of years living and working in Australia. We fell in love with the
coffee driven café culture that is booming in the land down under and became inspired to bring it home with us and take it to the streets of the UK! We are barista qualified, have over 12 years combined experience in the hospitality game and have huge plans to expand our menu to offer a complete mobile café experience but right now we are concentrating on the good stuff – Coffee & Cake! We offer a full Espresso & hot drinks menu and also have an innovative range of delicious home made cakes and slices available so save room if you have a sweet tooth! See you at the Chorlton Coffee Festival! In the mean time follow us on Facebook & Twitter…”
They will be parked up outside our festival hub for the whole of Saturday so come down and take advantage of their al fresco offerings.

Nathan tells us about his business and what we can expect to find on their stand at the festival.
“We make them cakes – crisp, flaky, chewy, dense Breton butter pastries better known on the continent as Kouignettes. laced with the likes of caramel au beurre salé or the very British stilton & nut, these salty-sweet comestibles make your Sunday croissant look like child’s play (& we love croissants). Take some home as a gift if you think you can resist them long enough.
We fell for Koiugnettes like so many holiday treats, but unlike the kettle corn of Woodstock or the paella of every other town in Spain, we couldn’t wait for the next trip to Paris or Brittany for the another bite.”
Phil and Aideen describe the company…
“We believe that tea should be better – not complicated or weird, but better. That’s why our teas are the ones you know and love, but we produce them using handpicked, rolled whole leaf tea and then we cram more tea into each and every tea bag. So whether it’s your everyday English Breakfast with milk, or your occasional favourite, they taste better than ever before.”
Patrick Hanfling and Adrian Davies have come together over their shared love for coffee and the fine art of coffee roasting right here in Chorlton. Patrick roasts coffee from home on a small roaster usings a range of green beans from Bella Barista. Once the beans are roasted and ready to go the guys enjoy making coffee at home for friends and family and are delighted to be part of the Chorlton Coffee festival. Participating in the festival will give them a chance to share their coffee and home barista skills with a wider audiance. The long term goal for the Chorlton Coffee Co. is to become one of the best coffee roasters and makers in the UK. But first things first!
A well established coffee roaster, Grumpy Mule have been roasting coffee under the name of Bolling Coffee since 1979. They have carved out a reputation as one of the leading speciality roasters in the North with the roasting house hidden away in picturesque Meltham, Yorkshire. Grumpy Mule was developed as a brand to showcase some of the speciality coffees that Bolling had on offer. Since its launch as a separate brand Grumpy Mule has been awarded with several gold taste awards and have been awarded certification of Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance and support for other projects such as Café Femenino.
The Emporium is a mobile artisan Tea & Crumpet Cafe built out on a Dutch Bakfiets Tricycle. It catered for Chorlton’s morning commuters during the long winter months on the corner of Albany and Wilbraham Rd and now caters at festivals and markets in and around Manchester. Its also a member of the “Guerrilla Eats” street food collective bringing the street food revolution to Manchester. The Emporium serves homemade sweet and savory Crumpets, Jams and exciting tea blends.
Vicky tells us the Tea Hive story…
Having started our cake business selling cakes, jams and preserves at markets around Manchester we were always eager to open a tea room which specialised in fines tea and beautiful coffee. We’ve been growing our business for the past two years; originally coming together thought a passion for cooking and creating baked delights for our friends, thought selling mince pies in thick snow last winter and supplying to local businesses. Our research into the perfect tea room took us as far as Luxemburg, Prague and Amsterdam and to all corners of these tea loving Isles which we came back from full of ideas and inspiration for a coffee and tea room full of Gezelligheid – which were told is translated to mean “convivial, cosy, fun, quaint, or nice atmosphere, but can also mean belonging, spending time with loved ones, seeing a friend after a long absence, or general togetherness”. Opening a coffee and tea room has been our dream for a long time and we we’re incredible excited to be able to do this in Chorlton in October 2011, in our opinion the perfect location with a very welcoming local community, Tea Hive felt established in a very short space of time.
At Tea Hive we serve a wide range of loose leaf teas and artisan coffee blends to compliment our handcrafted traditional cakes in elegant, relaxed surroundings. We work with an independent artisan tea and coffee supplier to ensure all our drinks are of the highest quality and dynamic in range. We also serve a bespoke breakfast and lunch menu with an ever changing range of specials to reflex seasonal produce, complemented by our preserves, chutneys and relishes which are all homemade. We ensure we always have vegan and wheat free savoury and sweet options and it’s often the wheat free cakes which sell our first! Our speciality is traditional afternoon tea with delightful finger sandwiches, a selection from our daily cake range and freshly baked scones served with clotted cream and homemade jam. As all our baking is done on the premises we can make sure than only the finest and freshest cakes are served and we enjoy nothing more than creating delightful new cakes and producing high quality traditional ones.
Tea and coffee are our passion and as such we have hand-selected a range of loose leaf teas and regular coffee blends, lovingly created by J Atkinson of Lancaster, the award winning artisan tea blender and coffee roaster. Our teas range from firm favourites such as Earl Grey scented with bergamot, through to our smoky black tea, Russian Caravan, to more unusual red, green and white teas which mystically uncurl in the pot revealing a world of scents and flavours. As we constantly tweak our selection our customers are sure to find the perfect cuppa, served in traditional vintage mismatching china.
We train our barristers to create smooth and luxurious coffees, using a range of brewing methods and blends of beans. A passion for coffee can become an obsession and we’ve defiantly developed a coffee community with our staff and regulars, bringing new ideas from around the world and trying new ways to serve and brew coffee. We work to find passionate coffee roasters who know their products inside out and use their beans as guest coffee range.
In addition to baking we gather our seasonally changing range of preserves in beautiful hampers which proved a hit at last year’s Manchester Christmas Markets. These preserves are on sale all year round and often feature in our sandwiches and cakes. Many of the ingredients for these are sourced from local growers or donated from friends and families allotment and garden surpluses. We also run craft evenings and hire our beautiful tea room out for private functions and events.
We know that there is nothing better than homemade cake and we’re happy to do the making for you. We offer a take away service for all our cakes which can be tailored to suit any occasion including a vegan and gluten free range. We have also just extended this range to include catering for afternoon tea at events and we can even supply you with the vintage crockery to match.
When Vicky and Sam discovered a joint love of baking and all things vintage it didn’t take them long to create All Things Nice. They baked cakes for friends and family and scoured markets and charity shops for vintage crockery.
Vicky and Sam were soon ready to throw their first vintage tea party providing an eclectic mix of homemade cakes and pastries as well as delicious teas, including their exclusive, signature All Things Nice tea. It was so successful they have now gone further and entered the world of “pop up” tea shops.
The team are constantly trying and testing new recipes and are committed to supporting local suppliers which is why they are delighted to have The Bluebird Tea Company supplying them for the Chorlton Coffee Festival.
